RC Servo Motor Speed Controller
In this video, I use a modified RC servo motor delay circuit as a speed controller for the motor. This was used to control the speed of a servo motor used to steer a trolling motor. This was tested as both a wired and wireless configuration. I have included the video link for the Hobbywing Quicrun 880 ESC trolling motor conversion.

Hi, I am completing a 40ft soar powered catamaran. The electric ouboard motors have just reached the import distributor and I have yet to pick them up. The company is a specialist in hydraulic steering systems on large boats and trains. The original builder of the catamaran built it with the view of using two 60HP petrol powered outboards controlled by hydraulic steering. He has already bought several lengths of very expensive hydraulic pipe and some manifolds, but nothing to connect to the motors themselves. The distributor suggested I bring in what I have when I collect the motors and see what could be fashioned. I hope to do this some time this week. In a conversation with my brother-in-law, he suggested I might look into controlling the motors via wireless servos. He is a model car enthusiast and suggested something similar to what is on those might exist for outboard motors? Is this the kind of thing EPropulsion are using on their new X12, X20, and X40 range of electric outboards? I have bought Aquamot Trend 15.0 outboard motors as they run at 48V (unlike the EPropulsion 96V range) and will slot in easier with my LiPO4 battery banks and solar inverters. aquamot.at/en/produkte/trend-line/elektro-ausenbordmotor-trend-2-2-bis-25-0/ The trolling motor shown here is what, a 1kW motor? I'm presuming I would need something much more substantial than the servo shown here? The Trend 15.0 motors are 120 Ibs in weight. Anybody got any experience with steering on cats, hydraulic, servo or otherwise?

The receiver you used in this video, the F-06A, is only rated up to 9 volts. A previous video of yours you used the PWM receiver that is good up to 14 volts. Greetings aksman, i have just recently received all the pieces to assemble the drive and steering as you have so clearly outlined in orevious videos. I just wanted to point out, coming from rc planes, this sort of unit is often used to adjust the speed of landing gear servo retracts, and more sophisticated transmitters can accomplish some of the other functions like adjusting end point travel, use of dual rates for less or more travel over all, and exponential rates to help tame over control. I am about to unbox the Hotrc transmitter and explore if it offers more than the basics, and will report back. May i say, Good Job providing clear and easy to understand information !

I was under the impression that most trolling motors are brushless and when using a brushed motor controller for this it tends to burn up the controller?

Thanks Howard. In reference to your questions... 1. Yes a 12V battery 2. Without going into all the rotation info, the actual field test performed as expected. 3. Most trolling motors are brushed. There are also brushless ESCs.

Hey buddy, awesome video great production I really really like the spot lock function. I found on tiny boat nation a version of this that cost $750 it had GPS added to it but I like your version better because I to have a 10 pound spot lock! Thanks 🙏

Hi, what is the yellow and white wire coming out of the shaft.? Thought it would just be red and black for power? Thx

It has to do with the speed changing. You only use the red/black with a PWM or ESC.

I have this exact same boat in my back yard. It was my grandmothers from god knows how long ago. My cousin and I used to run around on it while it was flipped upside down. Probably explains the small dents - wish i didn't do that. lol now that you've had it a bit, how stable does it feel while standing on the casting deck, and also, have you have more than one person on it yet? I really want to do this with it, but It's from a different state and I don't have a title for it. Anyway, great job.

Thanks. I was able to balance on it fine but have only taken it out solo.

Can you do this with the Minn Kota v2 board? Where do you get the potenciameter? And the volt meter?

I don't know. You can get all the parts listed in the narrative from Amazon.
